United Nations Global Compact Business and Peace Workshop
30 March 2010
Dear Sir and Madame,
It is a great pleasure to inform you of a two-day workshop on the “Business & Peace” on April 25 and 26 in Tokyo. The workshop will be co-hosted by UNGC, GC-JN, the University of Tokyo and Keiai University in order to enhance levels of understanding and awareness of the “Guidance on Business & Peace”. As co-hosting partners, we would be honored if you would attend this two-day workshop.
This Guidance Document has been prepared by a working group chaired by Sir Mark Moody-Stuart (Chairman of the Foundation for the Global Compact, Vice Chairman of the Global Compact Board and Chairman of Anglo American PLC) in order to encourage and assist the business community to engage in peacebuilding and development in conflict-affected regions, and was reported by the UNGC board for the official launch at the Leaders Summit in June. This Tokyo workshop will be the first opportunity in the world for Global Compact members to discuss the Guidance Document.
The first day is primarily for expert practitioners and academics for in-depth discussions. The second day will include an interactive training session in the morning, followed by an open forum and networking opportunity in the afternoon. The main purpose of the second day is to introduce the Guidance Document and to share knowledge and experience with the aim of encouraging participants to play their respective roles.
